Lunch Break- Day 2

Another beautiful, Florida day out at Keystone Airpark and the pilots and crew are just now taking a break for lunch. As we speak Fred is trying to wrangle everyone up to stop eat and START FLYING! This upcoming round of competition is going to feature the Sportsman routine. We have already had glider intermediate and glider freestyle as well as a few free style powered flights. And we can't forget to mention our primary competitors!

The ASK-21 has been put away for the day and is heading back to its home at Pierson --Airport and the Pawnee also is getting a break. But on the upside Kevin Campbell has dragged his MX-2 out for everyone to drool over before he competes.

My new position for this round is out on the south boundary with Lindsey where we will be ensuring that everyone stays within the aerobatic box.

Pictures will come soon!

End of Day 1

The last flight for Day One of the Fall 2010 Phil Schacht Aerobatic competition has drawn to a close. The Piper Pawnee has been put to sleep for the night and aircraft are being tied down, chalked up and hangared away. Even the boundary judges have been retrieved from there far away posts and allowed to mingle with the rest of the crowd. (Much to Lindsey's thrill since Ponso and her played chicken on the runway with the K-21)  As the day draws to a close we forget about Aresties and altitudes and we take time to enjoy the company of those around and begin the long-time tradition of hangar flying. Everyone has a unique (and sometimes wild) story to tell and a lesson to be learned. Cockpits are traded for ez-chairs and the food has been laid out for the traditional banquet. Before I reveal the scores of today I must say how outstanding everyone has performed both in the air and on the ground. Without key players such as Charlie and Ben as well as all of our judges (especially Randy!) as well as our airport security detail (Inari and Sasha) this day wouldn't have happened. A special thanks to all our pilots as well!

Well here is what everyone has been waiting for...Day 1 Scores!!!

Day 1 Lunch Break

This morning's competition had a chilly start, however after delivery of breakfast by our friends at McDonalds and as the first few planes began to emerge from the hangar you could really feel the energy start to emerge. After a thorough safety, weather and competition brief by the staff, the rest of the aircraft were pulled out of the hangar and taxied over to their starting positions.

What's so interesting is the variety of aircraft that are sitting on the ramp (as well as in the air) at the Keystone Airport. Looking around we have everything from our club's Pitt's Special to a Extra 300L. Bi-planes, however, are the most popular aircraft out on the ramp today. There are also a multitude of monoplanes including a Laser flown by Charlie Wilkinson and a MX-2 flown by Kevin Campbell. And we would be remiss in our words if we didn't stop to thank the flight crew of our wonderful Pawnee which takes the gliders up to altitude to perform.

The first round of flying has already been completed as of noon and the scores are currently being compiled. The most interesting routine to note, as of this instance, is the intermediate glider routine. This involves a spin in the ASK-21 and requires delicate control touches and precise altitude and momentum management.

Will have scores out as soon as they are released!

Fall 2010 Phil Schacht Aerobatic Competition

Hello everyone! We are pleased to announce the kick off of the official Eagle Sport Aviation blog! We are also very excited to bring you coverage of the 2010 Phil Schacht Aerobatic Competition.

Charlie and his entire team have been working extremely hard to make this year's event, by far, one of the most exciting event to date. This event is going to be held October 22 through October 23 at the Keystone Heights Airpark just south of Jacksonville, Florida. Thanks to our great sponsors including Southeast Aero,  MT Prop and McDonalds we are looking forward to having an amazing event.

Friday morning (well technically later this morning) ESA will be holding the official Safety Brief and both powered and non-powered aircraft will be flying competition aerobatics in front of official IAC judges.
